Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate High School was honored to welcome the Black History Bus Tour to campus as part of the 2026 theme, “A Century of Black History Commemorations, Tampa, Florida,” recognizing our community’s 100-year commitment to honoring and preserving the history, contributions, and legacy of African Americans. The tour celebrates influential leaders including Arthenia Joyner, Chloe Coney, Fred Hearns, George E. Edgecomb, Lee Roy Selmon, Rubin Padgett, and John Lewis.
We are especially proud to highlight the legacy of Rubin Eugene Padgett Sr. (1930–2020) a pioneering Tampa businessman, community leader, and the first African American elected to the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners, whose advocacy expanded resources in underserved neighborhoods and advanced equitable local governance; his legacy continues at BDCHS through his great‑grandson, Jeremiah Padgett, one of our students.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to the Hillsborough Transit Authority (HART) and to Mrs. Cookie Mitchell, SOCA Advisor and Art Instructor, for their partnership, support, and dedication in helping make this visit meaningful and memorable for our students.

✨ Celebrating Black History Month at ROSSAC ✨
We’re proud to highlight a stunning Black History Month display at the Raymond O. Shelton School Administration Center (ROSSAC), located at 901 East Kennedy Boulevard, Tampa, FL. This year’s showcase features an incredible collection of ceramic pieces, paintings, and traditional African Senufo drawings, created by our talented AP Art, Ceramics, and Painting students. These works honor culture, heritage, and artistic expression. 🎨#BlackHistoryMonth #BDCHS
