Results from the experiment. Students showing off their eggs from the experiment.

In Ms. McLean’s biology class, the students have spent the last couple of weeks learning about cell transport. Their recent lab included using eggs to demonstrate osmosis. Students used the eggs to represent cells, then placed them in 3 different solutions: corn syrup, distilled water, and a mixture of both. In corn syrup, the eggs shrunk. In distilled water, the eggs swelled, and in a mixture of both corn syrup and water, the eggs remained the same size. This particular lab involved a cellular process simulation which helped students further develop their understanding of the processes present in the world around them.
