students sing with emotion at spring concert

On April 27, the music department hosted their annual Spring Concert. This included performances by the concert band, concert choir, and solos by students. The performance commenced with a concert band medley from Disney’s “The Lion King”, followed up with a rendition of “Happy” by Pharrel Williams. During this section, sophomore Asiah Masud was recognized for participating in a solo and ensemble group outside of BDCHS.

The BDCHS concert choir then sung four pieces, “City Called Heaven” arranged by Josephine Poelinitz, and choir versions of “Run” by OneRepublic, Disney’s “I See the Light” and Marvin Gaye and Terry Terrell’s “Ain't No Mountain High Enough”. Student Rebecca Walters performed an American Sign Language interpretation of “I See the Light” and the students created a new photo sensory experience through this song by using electric candles while singing. The choir also recognized Alecs Asencio’s participation in the all state convention for the tenor bass choir.

In between songs, a multitude of students sang solo pieces. Beginning with Addisen Shea’s rendition of  “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, and followed by Ana Chahin singing “Remember Me” from Disney’s “Coco” in both English and Spanish. Lastly, students Katherine Young and Nora Fernandez performed the duet “For Good” from the Broadway Musical “Wicked”.

Mr. Crenshaw was extremely grateful for all of the work his students put into the show and his faculty for their support. He also gave seniors notes to show how thankful he was for their participation in making the performance possible.
